the suspect. >>> reporter: chaos at los angeles international airport friday morning where a gunman opened fire at a security checkpoint in terminal 3. >> i just saw the gun and i was just terrified and like everybody else was. we're all just on the ground. >> reporter: this is believed to be the gunman, 23-year-old paul ciancia, who was ultimately shot by police and is now in custody. >> this individual was shooting as he went into the terminal. the officers didn't -- i repeat, they didn't hesitate. they went after this individual and they confronted this individual. >> reporter: police say ciancia shot several tsa employees. one of them a behavior detection officer died. >> unfortunately we were unable to revive a heartbeat, and he expired from severe gunshot wounds to his chest and to his abdomen. >> reporter: sources tell cbs news anti-government and antitsa writings were found in ciancia's bag. officials say he sent a text message to his family in new jersey today threatening to kill himself. the airport terminal was evacuated but some passengers who were unable to get out crammed int

are learning tonight the los angeles tsa officer killed by an airport gunman didn't receive immediate medical attention help because a police officer said he was already dead. a lone gunman opened fire on it. sa agents just two weeks ago at l.a.x. killing 39 tsa officer gerardo hernandez. he did not receive medical attention for 33 minutes because an lapd officer told responders hernandez was dead. this week on capitol hill, tsa authorities say it took too long for help to get on the scene. >> he goes back to shoot officer hernandez, uhm, the second time, there are literally passengers laying on the floor right by him. so clearly, five minutes was too long in this case so that's something we're looking at in the review. >> there is no indication whether hernandez would have survived if emergency crews had made it to him sooner. >>> safeway comes to the rescue of river glen school in san jose. today it donated 31 ipads to replace those that were stolen. someone stole the ipads along with more than 2 dozen laptops. the school is replacing the laptops but not the ipads because they were purchase
